Gaya College, Gaya is located at 85.E longitude and 24.45’ N latitude in the spiritual and religious city as well as a place of pilgrimage of Hindus known as Gaya where lacs of people pay homage of ‘pind-daan’ during the period of Pitripaksh. This institution had a modest start on the 8th February 1944 on the eastern side of legendary river Falgu and it remained under Patna University, Patna (1944-1951), Bihar University, Muzaffarpur (January 1952- February 1962) presently known as B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur and presently it is under Magadh University, Bodh Gaya since the 16th April 1962. Immediately after independence the college was shifted to the present campus comprising 57 acres of land.
It is managed as per provisions of the University Acts and Statutes and the guidelines prescribed by the UGC and promulgated by the State Government of Bihar with Governor cum Chancellor of the Universities of Bihar as its highest authority. Principal is the chief administrative authority in the college. The college receives grants from the state government as well as the University Grants Commission for the payment of salary and infrastructural development.

Issues concerning health, environment, culture, social and political awareness are also taken up by NSS and other units of the college.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell is functioning with sixteen senior faculty members, government representatives, Vice-Principal, Bursar, C.C.D.C., donor, senior alumnus and Principal as the Chairman of the cell. The cell monitors the quality of teaching, research activities, co and extra-curricular programmes undertaken by different departments and Societies/ Committees of the college.
